Last Saturday, I flew in from Colorado, to meet some friends and business partners in South Eastern, Minnesota.
I rented a car and started making the trip south from Minneapolis. Sure enough I was starving when I got close to Rochester, Minnesota.
I decided to order some food for pick up from a restaurant I hadn’t eaten at before.
There aren’t that many in Rochester,
because well...we know Mayo Clinic pretty well.
Sure enough the maps on my phone brought me right by St. Mary’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and all the places that hold such a sacred place in our family’s heart.
I cried, I cried a big old ugly cry as all the memories of surgeries, appointments, 6 weeks of radiation, long hospital stays, all flashed through my mind.
As some of you know, both my son and my husband had the fight of their lives in that city. Both of them had terrifying tumors that could have taken their lives.
We have a mixed bag of memories to sort through every time we pass through. By the time I got to the restaurant, I was fine, and more determined than ever.
Walking my loved ones through these traumatic medical experiences - certainly has taken a toll on me. I’ve been battling auto immune issues for the last 5 years.
It’s changed me. It’s changed almost everything about what I eat and what I put on my skin. I’m excited to say that I’ve researched, read and implemented so many things that have brought me back to this place of health.
I’m on a journey to reclaim my health through clean(er) eating rather than medication.
I’m learning our bodies really are made to heal themselves, as we support them with healthy food and clean products.
Even my calling as a nurse has become clearer through all of this. I’ve been a nurse for 30 years. Oh wow, that’s a long time.
As you can imagine- I have a HUGE place in my heart for the sick.
But- as health care providers - why can’t we do more than care for the sick?
We MUST start the conversation about staying well, changing lifestyle, reading product labels, the list goes on and on!
I’m here. I’m feeling so much better. I’m ready. Who wants in on the conversation?
